Happy Independence Day

Here is one from the Freedom Show at the Contemporary Arts Project Gallery during the "100 Degree Art Walk" July 2012.

My "Reproductive Freedom Dress" made with empty birth control pill packages. Like the corporate logo flag in the background? It was from Ralph Nader's 2000 presidential campaign, still relevant 16 years later...

Willow...

Going trough some images today and came across this really great detail of a willow piece from a few years back. You can see the cotton threads surfacing through the layers of paper. This was one of the first series that I started embedding fibers in the paper. They spent some time with a corporate art dealer in Indianapolis but were never exhibited.

New work at River Light Gallery

Last February I had an exhibition at Hazel Tree Interiors that showcased my newest paper works. In this work, I started incorporating more color with the use of fabric dyes. I spent most of 2015 in the studio exploring this new direction and really enjoyed where it led me.  The majority of the work was sculptural but along the way I made smaller, more intimate sheets of paper. A selection of the latest  pieces are now available at the River Light Gallery at 1663 Main St. Peninsula, Ohio. It's a beautiful space with lots of great locally made artwork. The gallery is open: Wednesday through Saturday 11-5, Sunday 12 - 5. I hope you can stop by.

My Best- Sandra

More from Hypocrite's Slugfest...

A.R.M. was always about using a sense of humor to deal with the issues that made us crazy. Nobody is coming up to see the show- I'll bet if we had a velvet rope they would be begging to get in. Guess what? that's exactly what happened. People are ignoring the important issues that are in the newspaper every day- let's hit them in the face with them. They had to go through the Gauntlet to enter the gallery. We thought it was funny.

btw... my t-shirt reads:  “You’re stupid. We despise you. We don’t want you to like us – or our art…”  A. Gottlieb

Earth Day archives

In honor of Earth Day this week, we are posting some images from our exhibition “Hypocrite’s Slugfest” in 2005. It was before the Art Walk, before Red Light Studios and Jilly’s. We were at the height of our environmental activism and made some really great art, not many people saw it. Funny, not much has really changed in 10 years.
